Hallelujah In The Streets by GHY
Here is my performance of Gloria's words...her new words to Leonard Cohen's song...new words for today
I read a poem at a poetry event at the Whittier Birthplace today. John Greenleaf Whittier’s home in Haverhill, Massachusetts, that is, the family home of the poet, Quaker and abolitionist. Superstar poet of the mid-1800’s. The event was hosted by Mark Lipman, the current US Beat Poet Laureate. He is getting ready to set out on a cross country trip on the poetry bus to bring poetry and peace to America. He’s an amazing poet, editor of some great protest poetry collections. I have to ask him again how someone gets chosen as US Beat Poet Laureate. I can tell you, he is perfect for that role!
Some excellent poets were there. Mostly original works. Some also read poems they love - for example poet Tom Wylie of Haverhill, MA, appropriately read Ichabod by John Greenleaf Whittier.
I read a poem written by
- her new lyrics to Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. Her new lyrics for today.Gloria is one of those poets who writes with flow. Words seem to come from her pen like arrows fly from Athena’s quiver, striking targets in the world, like lightning flashes from the arms of Zeus, illuminating the night sky.
Here is my performance. I hope I do it some justice. If you can tell, it slayed me by the end. Peace.
Gloria saw your poem when we were having a little picnic with our dogs and she turned on the sound and played it for us. We both got tearful! Not only was Gloria so touched and honored to be included in your day, but your voice adds so much to the poem! You make a wonderful pair. New follower for sure. ♥️
Mark, Crystal and I listened to your reading of HALLELUJAH IN THE STREET and we both cried. You are a marvelous speaker and I am so grateful for your making my words sing. ❤️
